Does Your Web Site Headline Suck?
You paid someone to build a professional web site. And then you build your content around your product or service. You think everything’s perfect. You launch. You market. And then you wait for the visitors to start pouring in and hopefully, get some conversions in the process. But then you start smelling something fishy though you can’t exactly put a finger to it. There’s something wrong and you know it. You take a look at the traffic stats and notice something peculiar. Sure, you’re getting thousands of hits a day through consistent promotional efforts but it seems visitors are only staying a few second at a time. What are you doing wrong?!
If visitors are leaving your web site on first glance, chances are they’re just not interested. Or more correctly, you fail to catch their attention. In short, you fail. The content of you web site matters the most, of course. However, web surfers are lazy, as we all know, and most likely, unless you figure out a way to catch their eye (hook, line and sinker), they won’t even take a second glance. So what do you need to do? Write a headline akin to the big fat worm a fish just can’t resist.
Formulate Your Headline in a Question Meant to Answer a Problem
Find an angle. Find a damn good angle. Good content always focuses on an angle and works on it. If your product or service helps solve a particular problem, use that as an angle. As always, focus on something a bit controversial. Don’t be bland. If it’s ordinary, people won’t read it — it’ll bore them and they’ll move on. Sell your content like a salesman would knock on your door on a Sunday morning. In short, you should learn how to interest people because it is of the primary importance in any kind of business.
