What Are Podcasts and How Are They Used for Internet Marketing?

Podcasting — everyone who’s aware of the recent trends in the World Wide Web would know what it is. Basically, it’s a commentary of sorts, like radio programs, published on the Internet. They’re put up on web sites or blogs using streaming programs and they’re also published as RSS feeds. Pocasting has been used as a modern medium for new and information dissemination on the internet, reaching and influencing netizens just like how others are influenced by radios. And, just like radios there is potential to earn using podcasts.

1. Use Podcasting to Indirectly Promote a Product

If you know the meaning of soft-sell, then this will be easier to picture. Basically, you use subtle ways to promote products related to the subject of your podcast. For example, if you’re talking about hair care, you can drop names of certain shampoo brands throughout the recording. You can then place an affiliate or sponsor link of the brand on your web site.

2. Membership

As proven by web sites which require paid membership, done with the right ingredients, this is truly a profitable internet venture. You can create a system in your web site where in people would be encouraged to sign up. For example, provide a 30-day trial membership or provide shorter prodcast versions to non-paying members while paying members get the full-length.

3. Advertising Revenue

Radios and television have commercials — why not podcasts? Just like web sites can have sponsors, podcasts too. You can treat your podcast as a radio program and sell advertising slots. This is a model, however, more applicable to established and popular podcast shows. However, it never hurts to try and see if anyone would like to sponsor you especially if your podcast is about a hot or sellable topic.
