What is Viral Marketing?

You’ve probably heard of the term before, it’s nothing new for online marketing. Viral marketing is a marketing technique named as such because of its effects’ likeness to virus replication. Basically, the point of viral marketing is to spread the word through the help of others for free. To start with viral marketing, you need to be able to infiltrate a social group. For example, if you offer goods and services related to gadgets, you should find a potential group of people or at least one person who could help spread word around the Internet about you. Once you’ve succeeded in infiltrating a group, you’re on your way to viral success.

Now, there are many different types of viral marketing which you could utilize to achieve your end. Here are some of them:

1. Signature Marketing

A signature can be appended easily for outgoing emails. You simply need to add a URL of your web site offering your goods or services. I’ve proven this recently when I had encountered a visitor from my blog which was referred by a link from an email. The visitor came from a remote place from which I don’t know anyone. I could then assume that email was sent by someone who received my email with my signature in it. Forums are also a place where you can append links in your signature. The more you post, the more your link gets exposure.

2. Article Marketing

When you post articles in repositories, it’s a given that you would include a resource box. If this box contains links to your web site, people might click on them when they across your piece. And when web masters use your article for their web sites with your resource box intact, then your visibility increases.

3. Free Stuff

When you give away free stuff in some web sites, such as ebooks or web site templates, which contain your links, you again increase your visibility.

These are only some examples of viral marketing. There are many more available but they will be discussed in the future.
