Two Most Important Elements of Online Marketing

I had the flu earlier this week and I went to grocery to buy myself some oranges, a pack of tissue, and some medication. While checking out the oranges, I looked at a number of them and had to spend a considerable time picking the three best-looking ones. Now, don’t worry, I won’t spend the rest of the post talking about my flu. I just wanted to make a point.

When consumers are buying in person, they are given the prerogative of being picky and choosing what they want. Their criteria and judgment could be based on the five senses — touch, smell, sight, taste and hearing. Whereas when consumers buy from the internet, they don’t even see the goods before paying for them. They just shell out the cash without so much as a glimpse of the good other than on pictures. With that said, what do you think are the most important elements to be able to sell online?

1. Words

Even if consumers don’t get to see and touch what they want to buy, powerful words can perform wonders. Persuasion is easy if you know which buttons to push and physical contact is not necessary — words could always do the trick. The power of the written word is also one of the main ingredients in other types of marketing. However, in Internet marketing, the power of the written word is the MOST important, at least in my book.

2. Graphics

Second to the power of the written word, visuals or graphics also entice. Second rate graphics don’t make the cut. Graphics should even be more appealing than the thing itself if you want to sell. It should tickle the senses so even if the consumer doesn’t see, smell, taste or hear the product, the urge to buy is irresistibly strong.
